What I'm Reading Wednesday
And we're back with another installment! It's been slow around here the last couple of weeks, first with some technical snafus and then a much needed vacation, but updates will be resuming semi-regularly.
I love memoirs anyway, but learning about Jane (whom you know I hold in the highest esteem for her influence in fitness) from her own POV is especially fascinating. She is a controversial figure to some and certainly inspired political vitriol, but it's damn near impossible not to fall in love with her spirit.
There is a teensy party of me that LIVES for celebrity gossip. I'm a nosy person to begin with; I like knowing what's happening with everyone and everything, regardless of my level of personal involvement. This is especially true with celebrity health trends. I could (read: have) lose hours reading about Tracy Anderson's absurd methods or the latest awards season fast. These things are my guilty pleasure, my personal train wreck that I cannot wrench myself away from. This book is by no means destined to be a classic, but it's a bit of silliness that highlights the ridiculousness of fad dieting...even if the author doesn't realize that's what she's doing.
I just got this today, and I'm a combination of excited and apprehensive. Gay is an author I grew to adore while reading Bad Feminist, and I devoured Difficult Women soon after. I admire Gay for how forthcoming she is about her weight and the horrendous circumstances that shaped her body image, but her ability to engage the reader is so great that I am a little concerned about this triggering some nasty parts of my own past. I'm sure I'll have plenty to write about when I've finished it.
That's all for this Wednesday! What are you reading this week? Please feel free to add your comments about these selections, or suggestions for future reads, in the comments
